STRATFORD NEWS.
Mr. K. P. Evans, managing clerk for Mr. Cecil Wright, solicitor, lias accented a (position with Messrs. Adams and Plaining, solicitors, Patca. The Hev. W. A. Butler, formerly vicar of Stratford, is on a visit to Stratford. Mr. Butler, who has recently been assisting at Waiki, is on his way to Xew Plymouth, where he will take up duty as curate of St. Mary's parish. Mr. 11. A. Williams, caretaker of the Stratford Mountain House, has volunteered for the, front, ahd hopes to get away with the next reinforcements. 'Mr. A. V. Laurev, managing clerk for Mr. T. 0. Fool <es, has accepted a position with Messrs. Govett and Quilliam New Plymouth, Tlie. Xew Zealand House Builders' Association is erecting offices and timber yards in Juliet Street. The company is starting operations in Stratford very shortly. Mr. V. D. Wake, formerly a wellknown resident of Stratford, is on s visit here, in connection with the reerection of the premises destroyed by fire, of which he is the owner. SCOTTISH SOCIETY. A most enthusiastic meeting of the above society was held in the A. and ! . Association's office, when well over 40 ladies and gentlemen were present, Mr. G. Sangster being in the chair. The emb-committee set up to receive gifts of stock and so forth reported that it had met with splendid support from both town and country, and felt sure the result would he most successful for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Further, it must also he mentioned that, three gentlemen hare already donated £IW) each, provided .seven others will do the same. The society is making a great effort to get the. seven other generous donors, and with the whole-hearted manner in which the. committee is working it is almost certain the effort will be a success. It was decided to hold, o Mock Court, in connection with the concert. This should add additional interest to the evening's enjoyment. The committee in charge of the concert reported it had received promises of items from wellknown performers, and the Kjnnoiit Club Orchestra had kindly offered to assist the society. Tt was decided to hold an art union, the winner of which to be given a freehold section in Stratford, kindlv donated by Mr. 0. Hall, valued at £2OO. The section is well .situated, and is in one of the best positions in 'Stratford. The ticket.* are to be sold for 2s fid. and. if Ttnssible. the dra-winf *ill take place on the night, of the concert. The thanks of the society were accorded M l '. Hall for his generous gift. The live stock will be sold at the Stratford salcyards on the day of the concert, and the other donations will be sold during the even- ; ing in the hall. The whole, of the proceeds are to he given to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
