WEATHER IN JUNE.

V RECORD AT FUKEKURA PARK. iW« are indebted to Mr. W. W. Smith for the following report for June, recorded at the Pukakura Park weather Btar tion:—Since the first three days of the month, on which 'blew a stronc. chilly, south-easterly wind, the weather, though generally stormy, with frequant rains, has been mild. Cloudiness or the various forma of clouds exhibited great range and rapid changes. A fine display of alto cumulus clouds was witnessed on the 19th at an altitude of about 6000 ft above' (Mount Egmont. Immense masses of rolling cumulus clouds preceded the heavy thunder-storm with hail and rain on the 19th. After a stormy day of intermittent {sunshine and showers on the 18th a display of Aurora Australis occurred east of, and higher than, Mount Egmont,, lasting from 10.5 p.m. till 11.20 p.m. Magnificent sunsets occurred on the 4th, and again from the 7th to the 11th, over the sea and on Mount Egmont. Visibility—a term used by meteorologists for distant objects appearing near—occurred on four days, and is known as an indication of approaching rain. Rain fell on 23 days—the heaviest 1.041 in. on the 22nd, the lightest, .002 in on the 2nd. 1 Total, B.firf>3in. The maximum shade thermometer registered 63deg. on the 1] tli, and the lowest, 51deg., on the 13lh. The minimum shade thermometer recorded 53deg. on the 24th and .'indog, on tlie 7th. The maximum wetbulb gave 57deg. on the 11th, and 40deg. on the 13th. The win blew from the north on four days, north-east three, south one, south-east ten, and southwest twelve days. The mean terrestrial atmosphere at Ift. from the grass was 4!>y 2 deg.. and at 3ft. 48 deg. Thunder occurred on three days. The sunshine recorder registered Shrs. 31min. on the sth, and 12min. on the 25th. There were six sunless days. Total sunshine, llobrs. 51min. Ideg. of frost was noted on the grass in the valleyp on the 7th.
