INCIDENT OP UNSATISFACTORY SYSTEM. " / | By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. information of Uic death to-day of Pri« vato A. F. Patterson, Canterbury JJattalion, disclosed the unsatisfactory condition of affairs in regard to the notification of casualties. On June 11 hia iathor, a solicitor at Dannevirke, received a wire from the Minister for Defence, stating that Private Patterson was wounded, Mr. Patterson then cabled for information as to the whereabouts of his son and the. nature, of Ma injuries. On June 20 he received « telegram signed 'by the secretary of'thf (i.'P.O., Wellington, that Private" Patter•on ivas progressing favorably. TMg morning h 0 received another telegrarit advising him of the death of Private 1 Patterson on May 30, of wounds receive* in action. IPrivate Patterson was ao« tiially dead on .Tune H when informan tion was first sent through, to lila parents that he was wounded.
