PALMERSTON SHOW.
ADDRESS BY MR. MASSEY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The winter show was opened by Mr. Massey, who congratulated the people on its being a record. He stated that some parts had suffered from want of rain during the season, but notwithstanding that tlio exports had increased by eight millions sterling during tho ' last two years, due to the country's prosperity, which depended mainly on tho land. During the season several difficulties had to be contended with, such as shortage of ships. "Sir. Massey said that seventeen insulated ships were at present on their way to New Zealand ' to take prozen foodstuffs, but still there were 20 shiploads waiting to be shipped. Since the beginning of tho war the shortage of cereals, especially oats, was serious. He had been blamed for not. buying the farmers' wheat at about 5a a bushel, but that would have meant that farmers would have made butter or something else, and the result would have been more serious. Among the results in competitions wore the following:— Field roots (Sutton and Son's silver shield). Most points wero won by A. Paasey (Pohangiua). F. A. Piikor (Blenheim) won the points prize in the farmers' classes for I: oed and grain. Tlio points prize for grass seeds went to Henry Evans (Masterton). Vegetables points prize, F. Wcstbury (Taijii). Pointy prize for fruit, J. Gushing (Hawke's Bay). Champion ease export honev, R. J. U. Nicholas (Ihuvora). '
