Dairymen must recognise that Where they were unable to take part in the firing lino they should contribute very largely from the increased profits made owing "to tlio war. Tiic dislocation ol shipping was referred to at length. The prospect* were that all cheese in store would be cleared by the middle of August. Hit . considered that the present season would'' ' see a large increase in the production .of ehecs.'). in tuis connection he referred to the increased cost of rennet and the difficulty of obtaining supplies, aa raw materials came from the countries now • at war. lie considered it would pay -'" cheese factories to consider the question of the supply of raw material, with a view to its production in New Zealand. Hie labor question would be a serious one. During the past six months a number of cheese factory hands had to- . listed, and as factories were slackening more hands were enlisting, and next season factories would have a difficulty in staffing. This was accentuated by the number of new factories. He considered that in the case of skilled laiboiit would he desirable to suggest to the ' authorities, as had been done at Home, that enlistment should not be allowed to interfere with skilled labor engaged in the preparation of food for the * Allied armies. Seven hundred tons of cheese per week was used at the front. The retiring directors and auditor were re-elected unopposed. The. whole afternoon was taken up witli a discussion on the shipping ot ' produce next season, and speakers .', stressed the seriousness of the position and .expressed the fear that it might be found impossible to get the produce ' away. The chairman suggested that factories should see how far they could help themselves by providing more ator- '_ age space, as was done by the meat companies.
