DISTRICT NEWS.
■rr : ; awakino. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A farewell social was given by the settlers of the district to Mr, B. Durr, o£ the Public Works Department, on the 15th inst. Air. C. /.uch presented Mr. Durr with a- gold medal, suitably inscribed, as a recognition of the esteem lie was held in. On the following evening he was entertained at a smoke concert, and a further pnwcntntion of a purse of sovereigns was made to him. Mr. Gumming- (chairman) made the presentation. Mr. Durr patriotically handed the gift over to the Xew Zealand relief fund. Air. Durr, who always generously assisted in. all sports and entertainments, will be greatly missed here.
