Sir Edward Carson produced official evidence that there was nothing in the cargo which the law of the United States did not allow to be shipped in , passenger steamers. '• Mr Baker, a passenger, gave evidence of a lack of the complement of men for lowering the boats. lie said StallCaptain Anderson ordered women and children out of some boats, saying there was no danger and the ship was not going to sink. Sir Edward Carson pointed out that there was no confirmation of this. Air. A German cruiser sank the Norwegian steamer Granit of Christiansand. MORE VESSELS SUNK. London, June 17. The steamer Strathnairn, bound from Cardiff to Archangel with coal, was torpedoed without warning off the Soutn Bishop light. The second mate and ten i Chinese, were landed at Milford Haven. | It is feared that the captain and twenty--1 ; two of the crew are drowned. 'The Petrel, Explorer and Japonica, ; trawlers, of Aberdeen, have been sunk by submarines, A submarine blew up the Booth steamer Trafford on the coast of Pembrokeshire. The Trafford sank, but the crew were saved. •Copenhagen, June 17. The Danish steamer Kokos, timberladen for l.cilh, was sunk by a submarine in the North Sea. the crew were ! saved.
