JAPAN AND AUSTRALIA.
SHIPPING SCHEME FALLS
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Colonel the Hon. James Burns, one of the principals of the Burns,. Pliilp Shipping Company, who is a passenger on the Makura en route to London, states that the proposal that his company, in conjunction with the Nippon Yuseu Kaislm should establish a-'line of steamers trading between Japan and Australasia has definitely fallen through, owing to a lack of steamers and the high freights offering in other directions. Trade, however, is steadily increasing between Japan and these dominions, and a new service would without doubt eventually be established. Colonel Burns thought the steamers would include the Philippines and Fiji in their itinerary.
