DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondents.) RAHOTU. The adjourned inquest on the Maori man found dead on the beach was held on Saturday at the police station, before Mr. T. P. Hughson, J.P., acting coroner. The jury brought in a verdict of suicide i by drowning in the sea when in a state of unsound mind, adding that, in their opinion, deceased was not in a sound state of mind when discharged from the mental hospital at Pqrirua a few weeks ago.

The Domain Board met on Saturday night. Present: Messrs Hughson (chairman, Colmer, Groom, Penwarden, and Green. Messrs Groom and Penwarden reported that fence and planting hedge around recreation reserve were completed,, and it was decided to have padlocks put on door of waiting rooms of the building on the sports ground. Mr. J. Schinkle was asked to accept the position of sexton to the cemetery board. The hedge around cemetery is to be cleaned. Mr. Tyrell was appointed to oversee tho work. Accounts amounting to £l4 were passed for payment. There passed away at his residence on Thursday, at the early age of thirtythree years, Mr. W. Morrow, eldest son of the late Mr. Richard Morrow. Jle had been residing in the Waikato district for a few years, but on account of failing health returned to his home two years ago, and had been able to be about until the last three weeks, when he took to his bed, suffering greatly. Great sympathy is felt for the young widow and little children, and also for his mother and relations. The funeral was , a large one, the last rites being performed by the Rev. Addenbroke. 1 A meeting of ladies is to be held in the hall on Tuesday afternoon to decide what action they should take re raising funds for the wounded soldiers. NEWALL ROAD. The social and dance held on Friday night was not very well attended, owing to the bad weather, but a very enjoyable evening was spent by those who turned out. Mr. J. Keogh was M.C., and the music was supplied by Mr. T. Brimsdon and A. Roakes (violin). Another euchre party and dance will be held on Friday, June 25.
