PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the board was held on Thursday. Those present were: Messrs J. Young (chair-' man), T. Harvey, Willoughby. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr. Aylward's application to cut the. board's road preliminary to putting pipes across was granted. Mr. Bartte, sawmiller, wrote that all timber royalties would be attended, to. Mr. P. Willcox waited on the board, stating that a crossing previously existed opposite his gate, but the board filled it in. He was prepared to cart the pipes (nine inch ones) and put them in.—The board will supply the pipes. Mr. Green wrote that the foreman had made a mistake in reporting that Messrs Green and Tyrell had little to complain of regarding the Rahotu road. He also complained in harsh terms of the statement made by the foreman. The writer did not complain about the road, but about the ford, and "Mr. Tyrell alluded to tho road in general as a ratepayer. He also asked that the board give him a fordable crossing over the Pungarere River.

The chairman commented strongly on the deputation referring to the road as being in a disgraceful state. The Rahotu road was one of the test in'the district. He liked a fair thing, but did not consider it fair of the deputation to mako insinuations about the staff that had no foundation of truth. It did not look well for one of the deputation who sat on the board not to bring these complaints forward until after he was put off the board.

FOREMAN'S REPORT,

Foreman <7. P. Kennedy reported:— Upper Parihaka Road.—As instructed, I have been over the road with Mr. Willoughby and have let the contracts, one to Messrs Sharpe and Eatock and one to Mr. Eatock, Sen. These include repairs to bridge, wiring, and painting. The work consists chiefly of timbering swamps and pot holes; also shifting fence at cutting, putting in two pipe culverts and filling. This work will absorb the board's grant of £25 Bayly Road.—The new concrete culvert is now nearing completion. I would ask the board's permission to sell old timber after it is taken out of culvert.—Timber to be sold.

Pungarehu Road.—Repairs to this road have been done with broken metal; also the road to the factory had been repaired. Water tables have been ploughed out where required. About 70 yards of broken stone have been used for repairs. Cape Road.—This road has been repaired during the month; water-tables have been ploughed out in parts moat requiring them. Harvey Road.—Large pipe culverts have been put in during tho month, taking eight 24-inch pipes. Opourapa Road. —The work authorised by the board on a portion of this road is now being gone on with. Repairs wid be done to the lower portion of this road when the staff has finished the present work.

Upper Kabul Road.—l would ask permission to have small hill taken down just above Mr. Tylees' residence—cost about £7. This hill is a menace to the settlers on tho road. I would also mention that a rough piece of road opposite Mr. E. Duggan's (about 10 chains) requires boulders' to be taken out and broken in and blinded. —Foreman's recommendations authorised.

Ihaeo Road.—Repairs have been in progress for the better part of the month. The whole of the road is being dealt with; when completed it will be in very good order. Pariliaka Road.—This road lias been repaired during the month. Most .of the water-tables have been ploughed out, and are now in fair order.

Raliotu Road.—With regard to the improving of the crossing at Pungarehu Stream, I might mention that there does not seem to be any necessity whatever for any improvement on tho crossing. At present the road is not open for traffic. The traction engine could go over the road without any difficulty. To my mind, the greater portion of the road leading to the sea is being nsad for fanning purposes. Mr. Thomas Fleming is cutting tho gorse opposite his section on this road.

Accounts amounting to £2OO were passed for payment.
