The Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society will hold a sale of prize fowls, also various goods, in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund in the Coronation Hall to-morrow evening at 9 p.m. The engineer of the Palmerston North Borough Council has been instructed to prepare a scheme for an overhead trolley tramway system for the borough. He has also been instructed to prepare a scheme at an estimate of about £•20,000 for an electric lighting plant in conjunction with the trains.

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Otto I Fuse (Mr. R. C. Hughes) applied for an order against V. Trueman (Mr. .11. 11. Hilling) to keep the peace. Mr. Hughes stated that Trueman called informant a German, used insulting language towards him and assaulted him. Mr. Billing, for Trueman, pleaded guilty, und gave an assurance that his client would keep the peace in future. The Magistrate convicted defendant, fining him .CI and costs £1 7s, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Defendant' was allowed a week in which to pay. New Plymouth theatre patrons will regret to learn that the J. C. Williamson pantomime, Cinderella will not visit New Plymouth. Mr. ft. IL Saunders received a wire yesterday advising that circumstances prevented the company giving an evening performance, but in order to keep faith with the public it had been decided to give an afternoon performance of Cinderella commencing at 1 o'clock. A later wire, however, stated that, owing to circumstances over which the management have no control, it had been found impossible to play Xcw Plymouth at all.

To-niglit at the Salvation Army Hall a special welcome meeting will be accorded to Brigadier Carmieliael, from Auckland, and on Sunday special services are advertised to bo held. At the afternoon service Brigadier Carmieliael will deliver an address on his experiences on board a Carman mail-boat when Mar was declared, and how, instead of landing in Australia from England, he was put ashore with a number of other passengers at Java. Staff-Captain Thurkcttlrwill accompany Brigadier Carmieliael on this, his first, visit to New Plymouth.
