London, June 8. . Tihe King telegraphed with regard to the naval flight of Sub-lieutenant Warneford: "I most hp&rtily congratulate you on the splendid achievement ,in which you, single-handed, destroyed a Zeppelin. I have much pleasure in conferring on you the Victoria Cross for your gallant act."

When Sub-Lieutenant Warneford unexpectedly looped the loop owing to his machine turning over the petrol escaped near the tank. He landed, quickly refilled the tank from the reserve supply, and rooscended. In connection with the destruction of the hangar north of Brussels the column of flame rose to such a height as to suggest that a Ibomb had penetrated a Zeppelin within and that the escaping gas had ignited.

Amsterdam, June 8. Many civilians witnessed the destruction of the Zeppelin. German guns at Pradogrond, Ghent, opened a heavy lire at two aeroplanes that were trying to cut oil' the Zeppelin, which had evidently been struck and had a slight list. Warncford daringly approached • and (lew over the Zeppelin, then, with a sudden swoop, he dropped an explosive on tin; balloon. The covering immediately burned fiercely, and after minor reports there was a big explosion, and the Zeppelin dropped on a nunnery. 'Die nuns tried to bring the children to a place of
