# * • Miss Cross, of the New Plymouth High School staff, who has been spending her term holidays in Timaru, has returned.
Mrs. and Miss Dodgsliun, who liava been visiting their numerous friends in Ivellington since their return from thentrip to the Old Country, arrive by tonight's mail, and intend to make New Plymouth their future home.
Mrs, W. Leathain, who is at present staying with Dr. Leatliam, loaves on Tuesday for Auckland.
Mrs. Simpson, who has been on a visit to Wellington, returns borne by tonight's mail.
Mrs. Ryder, who has been visiting friends in Marton, has returned.
Miss Livingstone has returned from her holiday in the South.
Misses Turton and Morse, of Hawera, during their short stay in New Plymouth, were the guests of Miss Whitcombe.
Mr. and Mrs. Cato, who have been on ji visit to New Plymouth, have returned to Auckland.
Mr. and Mrs. King (Christchurch) are at present in New Plymouth. ♦ • •
Mrs. J. Scott, of Piri Pin, Awakino, and Mrs. Kelly, of Waikawau, whose brother (Mr. C. Potts, of Stratford) leaves for the front shortly, are on a visit to New Plymouth, where they are the guests of their mother.
FIRE BRIGADE BALL. iAs a description has already been given of the children's dresses at the Fire Brigade ball on Thursday night, 1 will just make a few comments in connection with its great success which was mainly due (and I feel sure everyone will agree with me) to Mrs. E. Dockrill (the president) and her committee, consisting of Mcsdamcs J. E. Wilson (Mayoress), F. Bellringcr, A. Boon, H. ' r . Ford, G. W. Browne, Henrichs, •). Clarke, T. Billing, J. Revell, F. Doughty, ,r. Inch, Shrimpton, P. Bellringcr, W. "'ryor, Sullivan, A. Kivell, R. Jury and Misses F. Bedford, Putt and Browne. May I just mention that the firemen, as u band, worked splendidly, and never has the hall been seen more gorgeously decorated, or the dancing floor been better to dance on. SOCIAL AT PURANGI.
iA most enjoyable and successful social was held in the Purangi Hall last week. A report of the proceedings has already been published. Among those present were: Mrs. Moles, cream; Miss Stott, white embroidered muslin; Mrs. Wilks, brown satin; Mrs. Chapman, black satin; Mrs. Bowman, black; Mrs. Drake, black lace overdress, cream foundation; Miss M. Burr, navy blue; Mrs. Webb, black lace overdress, purple foundation; Mrs. Silk, champagne crepe de clilne, Oriental trimming; Mrs. Barnctt, cream dress; Mrs. Evans, blue silk; Mrs. George, white muslin trimmed with lace; Mrs. Thomas, saxe blue voile; ■Mrs. Dowman, blue silk; Miss Wall, crimson velvet trimmed with swan's down; Miss James, tussore silk; Miss McMullian, cream satin, ninon tunic; Miss Wilks, white muslin swathed with red; Miss Webb, white muslin; Miss Tuson, pink satin trimmed with cream; Miss Rolfc, white muslin trimmed with blue; Miss D.
