WHARF WORKERS COMPLAIN.
THE CONDITIONS AT AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night.
A deputation waited upon the Prime Minister this morning to protest against the existing conditions on the Auckland waterfront, whereby it is alleged that 200 men eligible for membership are shut out from the Waterside Workers' Union. Speakers stated that at present the Waterside Workers' Union was a close corporation. Men who had all their lives been employed as wharf laborers were shut, out from ordinary occupation, and many were almost starving, while several cases of hardship were cited. Even men who had 'participated ,n the 1913 strike, it was contended, should be no longer punished. The Prime Minister offered to d 6 what he could personally in'the case of men whose individual position had been cited and promised to have inquiry made, into the main question raised as soon as he got back to Wellington.
