ESCAPE OF A PRISONER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christ,'hurch, May 20. Tnomas Williams, who was arrested at Duuedin on a charge of theft, escaped from custody at the Christchurch police station last night. He asked permission to go to the lavatory, and, it is presumed, got through the window. He is still at largo. A SAWMILL DESTROYED. Auckland. Last Night. An old sawmill, formerly used by the Parker Lamb Timber Company, was gutted by fire on Saturday afternoon. The whole of the contents were destroyed, including a steam engine and suction gas engine. The building was owned by Macklow Bros. The damage is about £SOO, and there is only one insurance of £IOO on the building in the New Zealand Office, while it is not known whether the contents are insured.
