In the House, Mr. Hughes, in reply to questions, said Mr. Knox's cable accepting the offer of 2500 tons of Java sugar at a prico something over £lO a ton was delayed twenty-four hoiir.". Jvo others were delayed. He explained that Mr. Knox said timt 11,000 tons had been already bought, and the Govarnmcnt was endeavoring to ascertain (he circumstances of the purchase so tliey might know whither the price asked by Mr. Knox was a fair one. ITe added that as a result of his inquiries Australia oould be supplied, for the Government could ensure a full quantity of sugar.
