FOR TIIE SPOTSWOOI) DISTRICT. A deputation from the Spotswood district, eoni]irising Messrs. 1). J. 'Hughes, lioulston, Williamson and Warren, waited on the Taranaki Kducation Board yesterday, regarding the lack of education facilities in that district. In answer to ipicstions from members, the chairman of the hoard said they had received a rc<|uest the previous year for the erection of a school at Spotswood, hut, as thi' Department had notified them that no money was available. the matter was allowed to drop. Four acres of ground had been available, and the cost was estimated at about Mr. I). .1. Hughes said the deputation was the outcome of a meeting held at SpotijYT.ood recently. At, that meeting the matter of the lack of education facilities came up for discussion, and lie was surprised to learn that there was a, teacher there who was not receiving any monetary assistance from the (.'overnmcnt. The West Karl School was overcrowded, and lie thought that the board would realise that a school was required in the district. One gentleman had estimated that then? were sixty-two children there of school ag£ The trallic on the roads was so heavy that the people would rather 'pay for the education of their children than send them to the West End School. Messrs Warren and Williamson supported Mr. Hughes' remarks. Mr. Trimble suggested that when the trams were running the children could be sent to the town schools. I'radbnry pointed out that if the population of the district was going to increase the price of the site would increase considerably. It might be advisable to secure a site.
