GERMAN PLANS FAIL. THE KAISER LEAVES -DEJECTED. GERMANS' AMMUNITION SHORT. GERMAN" ADVAXTISTiE LOST. Received May 25, 11.55 p.m. London, May 25. The Daily News' Petregrad correspondent reports that the Kaiser on Saturday left Jaroslav, journeying westward. He was in the deepest dejection. General Hindenberg warned him that the plan for a terrific blow on a short front looked well 011 paper, but the Russians Would likely entangle the troops. After weeks of struggling General Mackensen has now abandoned as hopeless the task of extricating the Germans on a two hundred mile front. The Germans have no troops to resist i] ; p Russian advance on Pilitza. where thou3ands of prisoners are taken daily. It is unofficially stated that the immense accumulations of shells at Cracow for the advance have so decreased that the Germans are obliged to economise, and their advantage has immediatelyvanished.
GREAT RUSSIAN SUCCESS. GEXERAL -PROGRESS MADE. Received May 25, 11.55 p.m. Petrograd. May 25. Official: Oui' front on the Lower Duhissa has made great progress towards West Suipsev. We forced tlic enemy to the defensive almost on the vrhole front in Galicia. Our offensive on the left hank of the Dneister has developed into a sre.it success. We captured 40 officers. 2-200 men and several machine-guns besides much material.
STRONG GERMAN OFFENSIVE. SENT BACK BY TJIK RUSSIANS. 'Potrograd, May 2-1. _A communique states that 'on the .night of the 21st, south of the Pilica, m the region of Klinontov, we repulsed the enemy's strong offensive, taking 1000 prisoners and capturing four ma-chine-guns. On the 22nd we attacked the enemy in the region nearest the Dniester, taking 900 prisoners and capturing four machine-guns. On the 21 st, in the region of Slomakn. on the right -bank of the Dniester, there was a stubborn engagement with the enemy, who several times readied our trenches' hut was repulsed. We captured seventeen officers, 640 men and some machineguns. Having failed t 0 secure a swift victory in Galicia the Germans are credited with gross cruelties. Tliev are said to have drowned a party of prisoners in the San, and officers are said to have shot five prisoners with their revolvers. Copenhagen, Mav 24. Inflammatory pamphlets are bein" circulated in Sweden in order to urge Sweden to secure Finland's independence by making an attack on Russia or by other means. '
