SUCCESS OF THE BRITISH. Times and Sydney Sua Services. Loudon, May 24. The Turkish rout had a marked effect upon the other two columns on the Tigris and Karun Rivers. The rapid rise of the Kharkheh and severe sand storms delayed the British force from advancing to check the Turks and secure the oil-pipe line. The Turks succeeded in retiring from Amara'i. thus evacuating 'Persian territory in Arabistan. The subsequent British operations were therefore confined to the punishment of tribes assisting the Turks. The slight resistance was easily overcome. It is official!" announced that the Arab tribes assisting in the abortive Turkish raids on the Euphrates yore punished, the British troops destroying the strongholds and killing a number.
