DISTRICT NEWS.
AUROA. Residents will be pleased to learn that Mr. R. Dunn is recovering from the very painful accident that befell him while stumping some days ago. The jack flew up and made a nasty gash in his cheek, and also fractured the cheek bone. The Catholic social, held last Wednesday, was a huge success. Father Saunderson, with a few well-chosen remarks, thanked the audience most heartily, particularly other denominations, for the way they turned out. During the evening items were rendered by several of the local talent, and dancing was indulged in well into the early hours of the morning. The sit-down supper provided exceeded all expectations. Messrs Joyce. Conaglen, and Davies officiated as M.C's| while McCarty's Orchestra supplied the music. The church fund, I understand, will benefit to the extent of £2O. AH that is wanted now is another energetic working bee like the one that did such good work last last week for clearing up the ground, and Auroa can hold up its head in regard to hall surroundings. Messrs Tate Bros, have finished their Taikatu Road metalling contract. "Jim" has left for a trip to good old England, where he intends to nominate for the matrimonial stakes. His fellow workers met together last Saturday night to bid him farewell, and presented him with a small gift.
