A fine response has been made throughout Taranaki to the appeal lor lunds tor the equipment of the hospital ship for wounded New Zealandcrs. The Daily Xew.4 fund showed a total last night of m<i 8s Od, while another New Plymouth list now amounts to £74 3g Bd. At Hawera £ls was collected yesterday' and the Stratford fund was increased to .CI.W, giving a total in contributions from Taranaki of £515 12a 2d. At Hth» am the ladies got quickly to work in collecting funds to purchase flannel and other material, and arrangements ihave 'been made for holding working bees. The medical men of New l-lymoutli made a magnificent contribution last night, forwarding a cheque for £BO. New Plymouth has done well, but many more contributions are required to mafa; the amount collected worUiy of the people, who should not hesitate to respond to the appeal. To-day a street collection will afford opportunity for everyone to contribute, and the pennies of some will be as welcome as the sovereigns of others. Should the day be ,wc* the collection will be held next Saturday. Arrangements for to-day's collection were made yesterday, when there was % good attendance of ladies at .a meeting held iu the Borough Chambers, whicll hud been convened by the local centre of the St. John Ambulance Association. The Mayor (Mr. J. E. IWilson) briefly addressed the meeting. It was stated that the Citizens' Band had volunteered to plav in the town this evening from. 7.30 till 0 o'clock. Arrangements were then made for a home to house collection in the town and suburbs from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. to-day, and for street collections from 0 a.m. till 9 p.m. Several motor-ears were promised to convey the collectors to various points in the suburbs. In addition to cash, donations of sheeting (3yds. by 2yds.), pillow slips, bandages made of calico or gauze, 2 to 3 inches wide and 0 yards long, will be acceptable. The collection at the men's moetfu at St. Mary's to-morrow afternoon will be in aid of the fund.

Apart from this the Internal Affairs Department Ims already acknowledged receipt of £OB9 10s «d f or t <i« fund, including £SO from the Governor. fhe Colonial Motor Company has presented to the Patriotic Society a motor ambulance wagon, to be specially built to the instruction of two city medical men connected with the society. The intention of the company is that the car shall be used for the conveyance of disabled soldiers and sailors to their homes upon their return to Wellington from the front. The company lias also given the society permission'to dispose of the car after the war in such a manner as it may think fit.
CHRISTCHURCH DONATIONS. Christchurch, Last Night. The Eed Cross Committee of the St. John's Ambulance Association and Brigade have been notified of the following subscriptions to the fund for the equipment of the hospital ship and the care of the wounded in the Mediterranean:— Mr. and Mrs. Arthur K.
