LOAN POLLS.
BOTH PROPOSALS CARRIED. LITTLE INTEREST SHOWN. The apathy of New Plymouth ratepayers in municipal afairs was never more pronounced than yesterday, when only 420 ratepayers out of a "total <:f 2822 on the roll attended at one or other of the nine polling booths "To record their vote in connection with the proposals to borrow £28,000. Tlio proposals were submitted in two separate issues, one of whieh provided for raising £22,000 for roading (including a soltar roadway along the whole length of the tram route), King Street culvert, and destructor, the other, £OOOO for municipal buildings, including a museum -for the accommodation of the Skinner collection. Both proposals were carried,, the former by 180 votes, and the latter by 71. When the poll was declared about 7.30 by the returning ollicer, Mr. F. T. Bellringer, who IFad made arrangements for taking the poll, there were about twelve, ratepayers present. Detailed results: — £22,000 LOAN.' For. Against.
