He had just conmlcted a dashing display ever the big f KM . eA w ] len ] lt , pulled up .liunc in trout. Tlx; tracks] there ar. regularly watered, but are still ! very hard, and several hor.'e, do. not reli-.li the going. I Cold Soult and Coldstream both went I well, and Penny Jiigg gained many friends j by hanging on to Kniporador at*the end] ol a mill.. Tinopai, Semolina, {Salvia,! Plack Northern, Draft, Multiply, lii-1 meter, The Polo .Daylight Hill and others did .serviceable work on the flat. Aruake jumped well, 'but did not hit out too freely, lie relishes soft going, liirkful gave a fairly good exhibition over the. Miiall sticks, and Doon went round once, .-afely. The latter is not by any moan.s u brilliant fencer. Addnoiight i'lew ihe big fences in great style. !!■■ inns to relish his tasks, and is in great fettle. Vestal also jumped well. Agatha Creen just crawled over the fences, and did not fly one decently.

King Lupin was again responsible foi strong work, and favorably ininre=Ked the onlookers.

Trainer "Josh" Prober arrived on Monday evening with eight hor.scs, all of which were busy on the tracks yesterday. .1 he much-boomed tiiaborne mare -Maryland was an übs-i-iiteo yesterday. ■■Sue cut her fetlock severely on .Monday and was not paid up lor in the haei; hurdle.-; on the fiiMt day. ]lor track work has made her out to he a rattlint, i,ood sort.

Jockey J. {;lds is none tho worse for the ct\;j per he came when Tahora turned turtle over the log fence en .Monday. The brush fences at Wanganui are I'aiily high and broad, and several visitor, have not been negotiating them any too well. Thi! caretaker, Mr. 11. Webb, has had the wings heightened, and horses will not now he so inclined to run off. The appearance of Wanganui acceptances did not bring joy to some "double" punters yesterday, the defections of Corrie and :Moutoa Girl from the Century Hurdle:) being particularly disagreeable. Fourteen hold their ground, including Sir Donald, Hereford, "and Black Xorthcm, and the race looks open. Kleven remain in the Wanganui Steeple, and nine or ten should .start. Xothing of importance has 'been allowed to drop out, though Golden (.How and Morning were fancied in some quarters. The ten paid up- for in the Connolly Handicap make up a se'.ect field. Kmperador is likely, to start favorite, and •Merry Hoe, Gold Soult, and Multiply will also be well battel. Included in the fifteen engaged in the Iloroiigh Handicap are King Lupin, Hoy, Kimcter, Play 0(1' and Veronal—all wellfancied sprinters. The hack events have filled satisfactorily. Thirteen remain in the Kaitoke Hurdles, including Birkful, St. Gate, and Toreador. The Hack Steeple promises to be contested by nine, and Sandy Paul, Soporific, and Grey Itenown may have most friends here. Twenty-two' horses (more or less racehorses) make the I'uriia Hack Handicap appear open. Salvia, Glacier, Maltegarde, Client, and' Draft are all spoken of favorably. The meeting should be a most successful one.
