Lance-Corporal L. P. Solo, who has died from wounds received in action at the Dardanelles, was the oldest son of Mr. T. G. Sole, of New Plymouth, and was well known here. Lance-Corporal Sole was a pupil at the Xcw Plymouth High School, and after leaving school he joined the commercial staff of the Taranaki Herald. After some years at this work he was'transferred to the literary staff of the paper, ami in the capacity of a reporter he did work which promised a bright career. He was a particularly keen member of the local territorials, and wiien war broke out lie was one of fie first in Xcw Plymouth to offer his services. Lance-Corporal Sole is the first Xcw Plymouth liny to lose his life in this war, and much sympathy will be felt for Mr. and Mrs. Sole in their loss. In the course of the service at the Whitclcv Memorial Church last evening the Rev. A. 11. ( bappcll mad' a brief sympathetic n ference to the diath firm wounds of Lance- Corporal Leslie P. Sole. The congregation stood for a moment in respect to the memory of .Mi. Sole, and. a special -prayer was oll'cred for the sustaining of the bereaved family.-
