AUCKLAND SEASON OPENED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Rugby football season was ollicially opened here yesterday with a seven-a-side tournament. Nine teams competed and the tournament was won by the City team, which defeated University in the final. The Rugby league football season was opened yesterday, when senior grade matches were played. Tim results are:—Grafton beat I'onsonby, 11 points to 2; City beat Newton, 15 points to nil; North Shore beat Otaliuhu, 4 points to 3.

Saturday's sports resulted: Rugby football: Athletic beat Poneke 12-li; Selwyn beat Oriental I(i-0Tnnt-ham A beat I'etone (i-3; Wellington beat University Iti-8; Trentham B won from St. .lames by default. The League game: Athh tic beat Suburbes 2(1-17: Petonc beat I]tilt -7-.'i. Association Code: Rovers beat Swifrs 5-3; l'urirua beat Thistle 2-0; Y.M.C.A. beat Wanderers .'i-2; Y.M.C.A. B heat Diamonds 2-0. Hockey: Karori beat United .'! 2. University beat St. Augustincs 1-0; Wellington beat Insurance 5-11. Ladies' Hockey: University beat Rambleis :: 1; lianiblers I! and Iluaii'.lji drew, no score.
