RECRUITING.

To the Editor. Sir,—"l don't see any reason in 'our' boys going to the front when they have all got good homes and 'we' can provide for their future. Different with the Waitara chaps who 'listed; of course, they all belong to the .poorer class who have nothing to lose"—so said a lady (?) from a district not a hundred miles from Waitara to a friend of the writer. The young men of the above-mentioned district must he of the same opinion as this woinan l as I cannot call to mind even one family residing in this nourishing and economical part of the -country who has a representative either at the front or in camp. Xow, the particular part of Turanaki above referred to has been settled "before the war"; in fact, a good many of the farms were presented by a grateful State to the forebears of these same "boys" for services rendered in a military capacity. Then why is the young generation so dilatory in coming forward-to the call of the Empire? A goodly number of them like to strut about in khaki uniforms, and do the la-de-da with the girls, but they are stone deaf to the call of the nation for help and service. Will some of them take the hint, or will it be necessary to be more pointed?—l am, etc., SOLDIER'S FATHER. "Waitara, May 7, 1015.
