.EMPIRIC PICTURES. The management of the Empire Picture Palate 'presented fur tile first time last night a fascinating photo-drama, entitled "The Sorceress." Leonard Rand, a rich art collector, his wife, Hester, and child, Violet, live in the suburbs of London. Hester rebels at the associations forced upon her ill what her husband is pleased to call Bohemia. One night tile mother finds the little live-year-old iiliild in the midst of one of her husband's orgies, and drinking wine. This causes a stormy interview, and Rand tells his wife that if she does not like the atmosphere of the house she is at liberty to leave it, but he will retain the child. The gipsy woman tells her the tribe is about to migrate to America, and in desperation Hester proposes that they tihall take her child, Violet, with the understanding that she shall be restored to her on demand. The deal is made and Hester consigns her child to the gipsy, refusing to tell the father what has become of her. Hester dies suddenly and the child, under the name of Perdita is brought up by Carlotta, the sorceress. Ten years pass and Perdita has grown up to he a beautiful girl. One day she encounters a limiting 'party headed by Leonard Rand, who has come to America in the interest of his art collection. Rand is attracted by the wild beauty of the girl, and induces her to leave the gipsies. Carlottii truces ho.r foster child, and with tlie aid of a gipsy love::;- discovers tlint IVnlita is Leonard Rand's daughter, and restores her to her own. Tlie supporting films were greatly appreciated. A complete change of programme is announced for to-morrow.
