EDUCATION BOARD TAKES ACTION'. A CONFERENCE PROPOSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christi'hureh Last Night. The Xui'th Canterbury Education Hoard decided to communicate, with other boards with a view to holding a conference in Wellington at an carlv date, or during the sitting of Parliament, to discuss the Education Act, 111.14. Tie Hoard also decided to bring under the notice of tlu Minister tile 'reduction of le;uhers' salaries resulting from the Department taking advantage, it was alleged, of a technical point. The Appointments Committee's report on the subject was adopted. The secretary submitted a list of teachers whose s'alarlc.-, had been reduced owing to a fall in the grade of their respective schools. The Department bad ruled fiat section 7!>, sub-section 7, under which teachers who remain in tlie same position shall continue to receive the same salarv, was not in operation on January Ist, IM">, consequently the salaries of these'teachers bad been reduced to the maximum of a lower grade. It was agreed to bring the matter under the liotiee of the Minister, and to point out the injustice the teachers in question would .suffer unless the spirit of the Act was adhered to.
