PURCHASE OF ARGENTINE WHEAT. Received May 3, f1.20 p.m. Melbourne, May 3. The Government lias ordered a further six thousand tons of Argentine wheat. A DANGEROUS ROAD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. At the inquest on Alfred Herbert, found dead on the roadside at Tcohu. Hill, Norsewood, on Saturday, a verdict of accidental death was returned. A rider was added that it was the duty ,of the local governing body to attend to a number of dangerous places on the road to Norsewood. The Coroner said it was a wonder more accidents did not occur on this road. 'WELLINGTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Wellington, Last Night. - The annual meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce elected Mr. James Macintosh president and Mr. R. W. Waterhouse vice-president. The Chamber carried a resolution urging that a mail van be attached to tho night express train to Auckland instead of tho afternoon train, to copo especiallyj with parcels work. The Chamber -also decided to draw the attention of the Government to tho fact that persons doing ■business between Great Britain and New Zealand are subjected to double taxation in the matter of payment of the. incometax, a disability which it was considered pressed unduly on such traders. It was resolved to support the Taumarunui Chamber's proposals for forming a national highway between Wellington and Auckland.
