PROFESSOR'S MIXED FEELINGS. London, April 28. Professor Haeckel, in resigning Ma membership of the National Press Association, wrote: "I retain feelings of .veneration and gratitude for my friends in Britain and the colonies, but politically despise England." BOYS TO SERVE. London, April 28. An order posted at Mulhausen orders boys of seventeen to register with a view to mobilisation. This presumably applies to the whole Empire. ARMS FACTORY BOMBED. Berlin, April 29. A telegram states that a French aviator bombed the Mauser arms factory at Stuttgart. The damage was inconsiderable.
An English correspondent, writing from London upon the performance of Miss Rosina Buckman in "Tales from Hoffman," 1 states that "her singing as 'Antoiiia,' in the 'Third Tale.' which en'Mi.pnfcsi's every emotion from clinging tenderness to outbursts of passionate entreaty, with the final note of tragedy, was a real triumph for the artist. Beauty of tone, a mastery of technical difficulties, and rare qualities of temperament, make Rosina Biickman's 'Antonia' memorable. Because she is a New Zealander, T will employ the words of the early settlers in that lovely south land—'Kin Ora —Katoa.* In this cast, too, are Arthur Heather, who sings Hoffmann with great charm, and Frederick Ranslow, whose Dr. Mirakel is a performance of singular vocal beauty."
