ALLEGED UNDER-FEEDING OF TROOPS. Melbourne, April 29. In the House of Representatives several questions were asked regarding the alleged under-feeding of troops. Mr. Mathews moved the adjournment to call attention to the over-working and under-feeding of the troops in Egypt. He laid the charge against the heads of. affairs in Egypt. There had been an /enormous sick list, and there must be i some reason. Ho could not believe that Australia was a sick nation compared . with others. Sir Robert 'Rest stated that at a time like the present the Department of defence called for sympathy rather than criticism. However, many serious allegations had been made regarding the food suppliedi to the troops. Mr. Jensen, replyling, said ho was sorry t*ie matter had been brought up. He did not think the matter would be improved by ventilating it. Tile Defence Department was doing everything possible. General Bridges reported that the health of the troops generally was good, lie thought members should have more confidence in the Minister of Defence. The motion .was negatived.
CANADA CONGRATULATED. 1 Melbourne, April 29. Mr. Fisher states that the Conunon'wealth caWed congratulations to Canada on the Canadians' gallantry. Brisbane, April 29. . Queensland congratulated Canada on the action of the troops. • Perth, April 20. The president of the Chamber of ComI meree deplored the attendance at vari- ' ous forma of amusement, and censured ' the Government for opening the Palais ide Dance. He thought that during the next few weeks the people -would have the of the position impressed on them and recognise it was no time, for dancing.
