ILLEGAL EXPENDITURE.
COUNTY COUNCIL SURCHARGED. j By Telegraph.—Press -Association, j Wanganui, April 27. Mr. Kerr, S.M., gave his reserved decision to-day in the ease of Rex v. seven ex-members of the Wanganui County Council. The claim is to recover £9 5s excess of unauthorised expenditure. The Magistrate decided with regard to the first item that in sending a delegate to a conference, the council was not acting in the execution of any of the requirements of the Counties Act, nor doing anything which the council was empowered to do. He gave judgment for £4 for the department. With regard to the travelling expenses of the chairman to the Counties Conference, the Magistrate found the expenditure justified and regarded the sum of £5 5s as an authorised expenditure.
