MOTOR BOAT RACES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, April 20. The second of the three speed races between the Fleetwing (Auckland) and the Disturber (Christelmrch) was sailed to-day over three rounds of a 3J knot course. It was won by the Fleetwing, the time occupied being: Fleetwing, Dmin. 47sec.; Disturber, llmin. Ssee.
ELECTION PETITION COSTS. Wellington, April 2(1. In the Election Court to-day Mr. Campbell's petition against Mr. McNab's return for Hawke's Bay was again mentioned. Mr. Skerrett, for the petitioner, said he did not intend to proceed further. The only question now was one of -Qosts, Sir John Findlay urged the Court to fix tile costs jas if £IOOO was claimed. Mr. Skerrett, however, argued that this was excessive, and that the basis should be a claim for £5Ol. The Court will give its decision to-morrow.
A CHARGE OF FORGERY. Auckland, April 26. In the Supreme Court John Patrick Sheridan was charged with having forged a cheque for £lO on the registrar of the Native Land Department of Auckland. He was sentenced to three years' probationary treatment and ordered to submit to a prohibition order for a similar term. SUPPLYING LIQUOR. Wanganui, April 20. A man named Reginald Tasker was fined £lO, the maximum, for supplying liquor to a prohibited person. ALLEGED AVET CANTEEN. Christchurch, April 20. As a sequel to recent proceedings in the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court, the defence authorities are holding an inquiry at Fort Jervois with regard to allegations as to the conduct of the wet canteen there. The proceedings are expected to last several days.
