At Awakino on Thursday, 15th inst., Tjoth cattle and' sheep came forward up to advertised numbers, with the exception of 3%-year bullocks, these being unable to get across the river owing to I heavy rains. I was, however, able to sell them privately, and so made a full clearance of both cattle and sheep. It has been decided to hold spring sales at the Awakino yards in the future. Settlers wijl be notified as to the date later in the year. At Okau on Friday, IGth inst., I bad a fine yarding of cattle and a good entry of sheep. There was a good attendance of the public. Buyers who were present at the Awakino sale came through to Okau, and good competition obtained foi' all lines. Prices were as follows: Weaner heifers 18s 6d to £1 10s, "weaner steers £2 Is 6d, small £1 ss, mixed wcaners £1 7s 8(1, 20-month empty hoi-, fers £3. 2-year steers £4 ]os, 20-month steers £4 Is to £4 7s, bulls £5 -2s fid, in-calf 2 to 2%-year heifers £3 17s, 2%yeai steers £6 4s, 3%-year bullocks £9 15?, forward cows £4 lis to £5 Is, heavy fat cows £8 15s, light fat cows £6 2s fid to £G 10s, store cows £3 to £3 15s, fat ewes 17s, f.m. ewes lis 9d, mixed-age' ewes 15s lOd, empty ewes (heavy-framed Lincolns) l'ss fid, lambs 7s fid to 12s lOd.
At Kaponga on the same day there was a full yarding of cows mostly, for which the enquiry was quieter, sales being as'follows: —Fat cows £8 7s to £8 9s, forward cows £5 to £5 Bs, store cows, £*2 Cs to £3 15s, weaner steers

On Tuesday, 20th inst., at Rahotu, for my autumn cattle and weaner fair I had a very heavy yarding of all classes of cattle, all pens, races and adjoining paddocks being filled to overflowing. Buyers wore present in big numbers, including several from outside districts, in fact, the biggest number yet seen at Rahotu. Those present were ■ bidding briskly jfor all lines, practically the whole entry being cleared at the hammer. Steers of any age were in keen demand, whilst cows were a little easier in price. The weaners, taken right through, were not up to last year's quality, but prices were well maintained. Very 'few prime cows were offering. Prices obtained were: Best weaner steers

MATTHEWS, GAMLIN" AND COAS REPORT. Matthews Gamlin and Co. report a full yarding of cattle and sheep at their Inglewood yards last Wednesday. Store cows were dull of sale, but anything forward or fat maintained late rates; good weaner steers also sold well. We quote: Springers (good demand), £5 5s to £9 as; forward cows, £5 to £fi ss; fat ditto, £6 15s to £7 ss; store ditto, £2 17s fid to £3 7s Cd; empty heifers, £-J 4s to £2 7s fid; 20-month steers, £3 7s 'Cd; weaner steers, 38s to £2 3s; ditto heifers, 12s Od to 14s; f.m. i ewes, 12s fid to los fid; lambs, fis 2d ! to 0s Bd. I ' LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Stratford branch, reports as follows:—On Tuesday, April 20, we'held our usual fortnightly sale in our iStratford yards, when we had a fair yarding of 471 cattle and 542 sheep, most of which were disposed of at tl)e hammer and afterwards at satisfactory prices. Store cows were somewhat easier, as well as 'poorer classes of weaner heifers. Anything in the store cow line showing condition sold well.
