<» - . CLEARING AWAY THE CARCASES OF 225 HORSES. LOSS ABOUT £II,OOO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, April 23. Three hundred and fifty horses were lost in the fire at Craig's stables. Tho firm estimates the losses as follow: Building £7OOO, horses £14,000, foddeiand harness £OSOO, mechanical plant £1500; total £29,000. This d6es not include a number of vans and lorries seriously damaged. The insurances were:—£sooo on the building, £4IOO on feed, harness, etc., all in the Royal Office. The horses were partly insured in the New Zealand Office, but the amount' is not stated. ( Auckland, Last Night. Further inquiries show that the correct insurances on Craig's stables and horses were as follow:—Building £SOOO, fodder £ISOO, harness and equipment £2(500, all in the New Zealand Office, and a general policy on the horses of £3700, in the. Royal Office. The firm's loss was probably about £II,OOO over the insurances. As far as can be ascertained, -225 horses were burned, of a total value of about £BOOO. The clearing of carcases of the unfortunate animals commenced this morning, and will be finished to-morrow morning. The carcases are being taken by a scow to the Hauraki flulf and dumped into the sea. During the firm's forty years' operations this is tlic first fire they have experienced.
