RUMORS OF A GENERAL PEACE. NO SETTLEJIENT WITH AUSTRIA. London, April 22. A dispatch from Ro'iue says ftat within the last twenty-four hours persistent reports have arisen that the ( grave international questions confronting Italy may bo solved in the near future b\| what at first sight seems incredible—the conclusion of a general peace in Europe at no distant date. •While the reports are intangible, and cannot be at present ascribed to any definite source, they are reflected in high quarters and given heed to by care'ful observers of international politics. Prince von Bulow is in Rome. The official relations between Italv and the Entente Powers are cordial. In certain quarters in Rome the idea prevails that the advent of spring has not seen so much of tlie resumption of aggressive hostilities as was, promised, and the fact is regarded as significant. Rome, April '22. The Messagero states that. Prince von Ilulow on April 15 informed Senator Ciirafa that the negotiations had not progressed. If war broke out Germany would stand by Austria's side. Senator .Carafa reported the conversation to M. Salaridra, who was unmoved. Meanwhile negotiations have been resumed.Italy has suspended the trans-Atlantic .liners, which the Admiralty has requisitioned as auxiliary cruisers or transports.
