Received April 24, 12.10 a.m. Sofia, April 23. Fugitives confirm the landing of the British at Enos. They report that the Turksih commandant ordered the evacuation of Port Athens. A Greek sailor from the Manitou utateg that the tarpedo-boat was flying the Russian flag and signalled the Manitou to stop, and she obeyed. When 150 yards away the torpedo j boat hoisted the Turkish flag and discharged a torpedo. Fearing she was doomed, the Manitou lowered all the boats, which were filled with men when the relief cruiser arrived. Twenty-four men of the field artillery were drowned on the Manitou, and twenty-four are missing; also two South Wales Borderers.
