LOST ON THE MOUNTAIN.
A YOUNG MAN'S PLIGHT FRUITLESS SEABCH MADE. A man named Pearce, about 23 years old, a member of the Wellington Post Office staff, is lust on Mount Egmont, and active searches made until late last night have proved fruitless. Mr. Pearce was spending a holiday at Dawson's Fulls, and he left the house on Thursday morning to climb the mountain. As lie did not return and it was getting late, a search party consisting of Guide Murphy itnd Messrs Robertson and Craig set out to look for him. At the same time Mr. Graham, of the North Egmont House, was informed, and accompanied by Guide Upson he went to the top of the Mountain yesterday morning. A comprehensive search was made around the mountain top, and then Guide Upson worked down the south side to Dawson's Falls House, while Mr. Graham followed a route to . the North House. Both Guide Upson and Mr. Graham reached their destinations about noon, but without having discovered any trace of the missing man.
The parly from Dawson's Falls spent most of Thursday night in searching and they found indications that Mr. Pen roe had proceeded from the western Bide o£ Fantlmm's Peak down to the Kaupokonui Kiver, and they thought that Mr. Pearce should be able to reach the house from there. But, as he did not make an appearance, a further search was made, but without result. A party from Eltham will leave Dawson's Falls House at daylight this morning to carry out a further search.
