FATAL ACCIDENT.
WAGGONER KILLK.D AT OMATA. An accident occurred on the Main South Road, near Omata, yesterday afternoon, as the result of which a wag-' goner, named Herbert J. Hollinton, lost Ins life. Deceased, who was employed by Mr. F. Roebuck, of Okato, left West's stables about 1.30 p.m., driving a waggon drawn by six horses and loaded with general merchandise fol the coast. When about two hundred yards past the Omata Hall, il JH supposed that he attempted to do something to the harness or the reins whfj* the waggon was in motion, standing meantime on the pole. The horses plunged, and throw him to the ground, and the wheels of the waggon passed o"cr him:' The horses continued on, but were stopped some.distane further along tli.i road by a lad nanicd Leslie Crosier, whose attention was attracted by a little girl nanicd Morton, who was riding to Okato on the waggon. Mrs. Siience, of Hurford Road, was the first on tho scene, and Tang up Dr. Wade, who went out promptly, but could only pronounce life to he extinct.'
The police were communicated with, and Constable Smythe brought the body to the morgue. An inquest will be held on Saturday morning. Deceased, who had been employed by Mr. Roebuck for the past six months or so, is said to have been a resident of the Nelson district. He leaves a widow and a family of five young children, the eldest of whom is seven years r>f age. ' >,;»
