AUROA. Three rinks of local Ipuvlwa journeyed to Manaia last Saturday to try conclusions with the latter club, and although rather badly defeated, spirit a very enjoyable afternoon, l.t the absence of the President of the Manaia club, the Vice-I'.-esident -'My r.'itiwn) extended a cordial welcome to the Auroa bowlers, after which our "boys" assembled for their gruel. The gre-in proved too fast for our colts. The caretaker deserves great credit for the condition he had got the three rinks inte. Mr. Poole (-the President of the Auroa club) thanked Manaia for the'hospital'.ty shown, and expressed a wish that next time they met the defeat would be turned into a Victory. Afternoon lea was served in the usual manner of Manaia ladies. Appended are the lesults, Manaia being mentioned first in each case:—

McKenzie Hunger, Dixon, Ttavrikiin (s.) 25 Morton, Bradford, T. Hair, Tart (s.) n Putt, Hansen, Meuli, W. Taylor (s.) )... 36 Poole, Anderson, Dunn, Buxton (s.) 15 C. Taylor, Gee, Paterson, Hair •(8.) 28 Brown, Tremain, .McCall, McCarty (s.) 11 What may have had fatal results happened the other night, When two bf Tat? Bros.' teamsters motored into Manaia one behind the other on a motor bike. They collided with a gig without lights. Fortunately nothing of a serious nature occurred, although both were badly shaken and are still indisposed. The dance that was held on Friday night last in aid of the hall funds proved a great success. The ladies intend holding a ball on the 28th inst., and if given a fine night should excel all previous efforts, as the cemmittee under tbe lead of their most enterprising secretary (Miss G. R. Poole) are leaving no stone unturned to secure success.

The trotting fraternity are getting ratiier impationt awMting the result, of the commission's verdict in respect to the permits. They are now arranging an odd mateh or two on the road just to weak un a little enthusiasm.

Influenza is very» prevalent in ihe t'isirict at present, many young and ■ Id folks have to take to bed for a day or so. Our next batch of aspirants for V.'.J. honors are rather disappointed that iliey are not being called into oamp rig'it away. Vive le roi!
