MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
A SERIOUS CHARGE. Charged with committing rape on a Maori g i r i un< i el . 1(i ycn] . s oMj at R& _ liotu on Ajiril !)th, Joseph Hazeldine, a member of a circus recently in Now Plymouth, appeared before Mr. A. Groove, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The accused was not roprosenlv-d by counsel. Sub-inspector Foully ascribed how the girl, while proceed:-!-' home after attending the circus at Ka" hotu, was accosted by the accusscd, who committed the offence complained of. The case occupied the Court througlirut the day, and at the conclusion of tin, evidence the accused was committed ior trial. Bail was allowed with prisoner's .€2OO and two, sureties of £IOO each or one of' £2OO.
