EAST END BEACH.

PLANT FOR THE FUTURE. A meeting of the East End Committee was held last night. Mr. F. C. Bcllrir.gcr presided over a good attendance of members. The Roebuck Cup and medals for physical drill, which were won by the High School team at the carnival held at the East End on Easter Monday, were presented to Col.-Sergt. Bruce, who accepted them on behalf of the team. In returning thanks, Col.-Sergt Bruce mentioned that it was hoped to enter four squads from the High School next year. For the future development and improvement of the East End plans are being prepared by Mr. S. Percy-Smith and Mr. W. W. Smith. These gentlemen were present at the. meeting, and they stated that they hoped to hive the plan ready next Monday. The outstanding features of the improvements will be comprehensive planting of native shrubs and a general scheme of lawns. Arrangements are to be made for the first public appearance of the band at the East End when the new instruments are received.

Messrs A. and L. Hardgrave were elect ed members of the committee.

It was decided to apply to the Borough Council for a further supply of kerbstones.
