FROZEN MEAT.
SCARCITY OF SHIPPING. SHIPS FOR JUNE. Wellington, Last Uighr. The question of north versus south in regard to the shipment of frozen meat from New Zealand was briefly referred to by the Prime Minister in conversation with a Post reporter to-day. He' pointed out that for the year ending June 30, 1014, the quantity exported from the North Island was 3,210,303 carcases and from the South Island 1,614,228, or an excess in favor of the North Island of 1,(102,105. That was a normal year before the war broke out. Up to Friday last, he added, the Government had paid £76(1,476 for meat from New Zealand consigned to the Imperial authorities under the new scheme and at least £IOO,OOO worth more had been contracted for.
As to May, Mr. Massey reiterated the fact that there would be a shortage of ships, but he was still doing what he could through the Board of Trade to make up the deficiency, and the following ships would be available for June: Opawa, Kai Ora, Pnpuroa, Rangitira, Tongariro, and La Blanca, with a total carrying capacity of 950,000 carcases.
