GOD PUNISH ENGLAND.
God punish England! Yea, if England now, On her Imperial brow, Wcareth the mark of Cain; If she hath warred for gain; If to the grave hath sent, Wanton, the innocent, For scorn, or hate, or'greed; God punish' her, indeed! God nunish England! If she hath sought to hold More power, more land, more gold; If, for an ancient score, She plunged the world in war, Judge Thou, oh God! If one Hath these things thought or done; If in Thy sight serene Our hands are aught but clean} God punish England! God punish England! If she hath drawn her sword In any cause abhorred, For battle's bloody lust; God, bring her to the dust! If, in Thy Right, Most High, Our brave went down to die For England's plighted word? Whom -wilt Thou punish, Lord? —"Oriel," in the Argus.
