RAILWAY BRIDGE DESTROYED BY FRENCH CRUISER. Paris, April 18. Official.—A French cruiser yesterday destroyed the railway bridge connecting Acre with the interior Syrian railway system. . . Le Temps states that anarchy prevails in Smyrna. Under the pretext of levying army requisitions the Turks are pillaging simps and robbing wealthy people. i There are many murders daily.
THE SULTAN ANGERED. THREATENS TO ABDICATE. Received April 18, 3.30 p.m. Paris, April 17. Le Temps' Dedegatch correspondent nays the Imperial Council discussed the transference of tlic capital to Asia Minor. The Sultan blamed the Young Turks ior the country's misfortunes, and declared that ho was determined to abdicate if the capital were threatened. AN AGITATION FOR PEACE. PLACARDS IN CONSTANTINOPLE. The Corriere della Sera states that the streets of Constantinople on Friday were placarded with manifestos demanding peace, and accusing, the Germans of being the origin of the Turks' misfortunes. The desire for peae/) among the ■poorer classes is almost universal. Many are in a Btate of semi-starvation.
