CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. Wellington, April 10. As a sequel to the Taupiri colliery disaster, in which over forty miners lost their lives, some twenty writß have been issued against the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., on behalf of relatives and dependents of deceased miners, claiming compensation in sums up to £ISOO. A test case came before Justices Cooper and Ilosking in chambers to-day for a decision on two points, (1) as to whether the eases should bo heard by a common or special jury, and (2) as to whether the venue of cases should be Auckland or Hamilton. Their Honors made an order for trial by special jury at Auckland, on a date to be fixed.
