BAND CONCERT AT URENUI. j I Yesterday the New 'Plymouth Citi- ! J zens' i ind journeyed to Urenui and gave . , open-air concert in aid of the Heigh... Relief Fund. On arriving at Onaero < the band was met by a mounted contingent from Urenui, under Messrs. A. 11. Ilalconibe, MeKenziu and McLellan, the last-named as standardbearer carrying a large Union Jack. After luncheon at the Urenui Hotel, the band played a programme on the Urenui Recreation Grounds, the One day attracting a big crowd to the charming spot.. The following programme was submitted:—March, "The Trooper"; quickstep, "Western Boom]'; waltz, "Belle of Bohemia"; fantasia, "Minstrel Melodies"; march, "The Hero of Trafalgar"; selection, 'British Melodies"; selection, " Tipperary" and 'Marseillaise" (encored; march, "Royal Australian Navy"; National Anthem. The music was appreciated by the audience, who responded nobly to the appeal of the band of lady collectors by contributing a total of £2l (is 7d. The band and visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by the ladies of tile district. !At the conclusion, Mr. A. H. Halcombe, in a short speech, referred to the nol>.'« efforts of the Belgians, and thanked the band for so generously assisting and the publie for responding so well. Mr. G. W. Browne, president of the band, replied in a patriotic speech, etating that we had got to see the Belgians re-es-tablished, and concluding with th« words: "Where ever the British flag flies, one and all are prepared to make sacrifices to keep it flying* BASKET SOCIAL AT OHOKE. A verv successful basket social held 'in the Okokc School on Friday night resulted in the sum of £22 being added to the Belgian Relief Fund. Mr.' P. Darke presided. Bidding for the baskets was keen, the highest price being realised by Miss D. Taunton's basket, which produced 255. Mrs. Fuller's Baslcet was the most novel in design, a, " Dreadnought." Mr. J. Jones was M.C., and the music for the dance was provided by Miss Blake,' Messrs L. Jones, S. Johnson, R. Ross and McKay. During the evening a short programme was submitted, a song being rendered by Mrs. Rockett and recitations by Misses Blake and Lee, and Mr. Howard (2). Mr. K. Blundell assisted greatly towards the general success.
