VIEWS OK SOCIALISTS, London, April 5. : Chasanovitch, a British citizen naturalised in Canada, has arrived in London. ,lle escaped from Vienna and spent three days in Berlin in the middle of March amongst his Socialist comrades, and heard the real sentiments of the social democrats and tnuleß union leaders on the war. They state that they were tricked byi Government agents into the belief that the war was purely and exclusively defensive against Russia, and that hostilities were not intended against Krance, Britain or Belgium. They thus voted the war credit in the Reichstag. Hundreds of thousands of ■ Socialists regard the war sis the; greatest infamy in human history. They dare not utter their views in public, as they would be mercilessly punished. The working classes ardently desire peace. Chasanoviti-eh does not believe that there will he a revolution, hut if German}! .loses there will be a strong movement in the direction of democracy. 1
