London, April 5. At (lie inquest on Mr. Stoddart, Jr'g widow gave evidence that he had resigned the secretaryship of the Queei's. Club owing to a nervous breakdown, and had been without work since, nnd was very depressed. He lost his nmnoy through' the war. Late on Saturday night he took a pistol from his pocket and said he was going to finish'it. li'.g wife advised him to consult his friends, and after a slight struggle ;hc secured the pistol, but returned it again, as it was not loaded, but took away the box of cartridges. Later slip found him dead' in bed. and then discovered he lmd another box of cartridges. A verdict of suicide was returned.

Received April 7, 12.15 a.m. Lndon, April 6. Medical evidence showed that Stoddart had pneumonia, which increased his depression.

(Mr. Stoddart captained the represent' fttive cricket" teams to Australia, captained England both at cricket and Rugby football, and brought the first English Rugby team to New Zealand' many years ago. He was 52 years of age.)
