OPUNAKE.

HARBOR BOARD. At the last meeting of the Opunake Harbor Board, Mr. O'Brien was appointed secretary, vice M. Chambers, resigned. Mr. MeKeown reported that he had interviewed the Public Trustee respecting the harbor loan. His opinion was that the money could not be obtained oil the terms stipulated by the board. The .Sydney Bulletin sketch, " The Feast of Belshazzar," purporting to rec.ord the sale of the Opunake wharf to the mortgagee for non-payment of a loan, was laid on the table. A motion, calling on the editor to note that a mistake had been made, as the Harbor Board was not connected with the sale; that the jetty was owned by a private company, ami sold for recovery of damages under the Compensation Act, was defeated by one vote.

The board decided to notify the ]sgmont 'County Council that it would claim for royalty and damages to Harbor Board property by removing gravel and boulder stone from section 30.

■A special general meeting of the Tennis Club was held on Thursday evening to discuss a charge of insolence made by one set of players against another set. There was a long and nt times heated discussion, the ladies taking a prominent part. The business was taken in committee, a motion that tlie meeting be open to the Press l/eing lost by one vote.

Last week the Belgian flag t?iat wna sold by public auction, and finally bought by Mr. F. lloskiii. was formally handed over to the public school. The presentation was made l}.TMr. Iloskin, and Mr. Looncv, chairman of the Opunake School Committee, thanked the donor. The Rev. Tinsley spoke a few appropriate words of appreciation of the Belgians. Mr. J. Young (member of the Education Board) spoke of the progress made by the Opunake School under the headmaster, Mr. Evans, and his capable stall'. A programme of musical items and physical exercises and drill by the senior pupils was exceedingly well done, and very much appreciated by the large number of parents present.
